Are you looking to get married?
Congratulations if you are!
We would love to welcome you to Emmanuel church for a wedding if we can.
Emanuel church
is a popular church for weddings. In part due to the beauty of the church both inside and outside. In part due to our experience with working with couples to make their Marriage Service in church personal to them.
Have a look at the points listed here, and it could be that Emmanuel is the right place for you too.
Who can get married at Emmanuel Church?
- The simple answer is that anyone living within the catchments area of the Church and who hasn’t been married previously can book a wedding at Emmanuel.
- A new law has now been passed so thatother links to the catchment area and the Church are now making it possible to qualify to get married here:
- Were you baptised or confirmed here?
-Have you or your parents been regular attendees of the church in the past?
-Were your parents or grandparents married here?
-Have you or your parents lived in the area in the past?
It may be that you can qualify.
How do I know if I live in the catchments area or not, and what if I don’t?
- Emmanuel’s catchments or ‘parish’ has a slightly strange boundary. It encompasses Warren Hill, Bestwood Lodge, small parts of Top Valley and Bestwood Park and then into the Country Park and down into Bestwood Village.
- If you don't qualify under the criteria above and you live outside this area, it’s still possible to get married here by becoming an attending member of the church. You would be required to come to church services over a period of time and by doing that you would qualify on our membership role – lots of couples do this, and by experiencing church worship they come to appreciate the spiritual side of getting married in church.
- Of course it’s worth pointing out that you will have your catchments parish church where you may legally be married without the need to attend.
What about if one or both of us have been married before?
- The Church of England does allow for divorced persons to remarry in church and this has been the case at Emmanuel for some time now. Because the church has a responsibility before God to promote healthy and long-lasting marriages and to avoid issues from the past affecting the future, the first stage would be for you to come with your decree absolute to a confidential interview with the Vicar or Curate.
How much is it?
- The Legal fees for a wedding are fixed centrally in the Church of England and cost around £321.50 (2011 figures). We also offer a number of extras; such as an organist and flowers for which there is a locally agreed fee.
Who do I contact?
- If you would like to discuss the possibility of a wedding at Emmanuel then please contact Revd Elizabeth Snowden on 0115 920 8879.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
